No Spectator Sport

Shopping is such an elusive activity to me. Pre-Doodle I used to love shopping....mostly by myself as a way to relax. Post-Doodle that last time I tried to shop and try a pair of pants on my little crazy man opened the dressing room door and attempted to run out of the store, I pretty much only shop online now.

So when Molly and I discovered we had both gotten the same Living Social deal for Saks off 5th I got pretty excited. We met a couple of weeks ago (while Doodle was in school) and I actually got to sift through racks and racks of clothes, just like the old days. I do not take shopping lightly....it is no spectator sport....I like the thrill of the hunt and it totally paid off that day. I scored a gorgeous gray wool Helmut Lang top that I've already worn 3 times since purchasing it. Also, I always like to be comfy while shopping...so a pair of skinny jeans, sporty top and oxfords and boom, ya done.

See ya Wednesday skrillas (PS get excited, I'm doing a piece on "How to Make Vintage Your Own")

Snobswap High/Low: Fiercely Feminine

cashmere sweater: stylemint (similar here)// leather skirt: similar here // shoes: shoemint (similar here...just snagged this pair!) // sunnies: house of harlow // bag: rebecca minkoff (available here) // necklace: stella & dot (available here)

In case you missed last Wednesday's post I'm guest editing over on Snobswap right now to share the art of mixing high and low pieces. I've curated several looks and shared the links for similar pieces on the site.......so what are you waiting for, go check it out...buy, sell, or swap some designer goods!

Today's look: Fiercely Feminine

Who says feminine has to be frilly? A leather skirt has the perfect amount of sultriness yet has soft lines. Pair a leather skirt with a v-neck sweater and a unique leather clutch on your next date night and see if you don't get noticed. But don't forget about a fierce pair of heels.....every femme fatale needs some.

Today's look: Classic & Chic

Classic pieces put together in an interesting way can totally transform a look. First, find a great leather tote.....you will use it for years to come (I promise), then, get yourself a great tailored blazer. Throw it over your shoulders like a cape with some denim for an easy every day look or pair it with a pencil skirt and great heels. Ankle boots also stand the test of time for every style, leather specifically seems polished. And stack up on striped tees, you can purchase these at any price range and they look good with just about everything.

Today's look is "Everyday Edge"

Do you ever envy those girls that look so nonchalant and effortless yet totally chic? Their secret is a closet of edgy pieces that they can throw on without any thought and know they will look good. Those pieces are (your version of a) leather jacket, leather flats and some great cutoffs. Mix and match those pieces with different tops like a printed button down or silk blouse.

Dog Days

shirt: gap (similar here) // shorts: stylemint  // shoes: piperlime (available here) // sunnies: ray ban (available here) // jewels: stella & dot (available here)

Let's just say for the past month I have been carefully curating a mix of boots, scarves, wool hats and vintage capes in hopes that September might cool down......unfortunately North Carolina is officially in the dog days of summer. Its 92 degrees out here people, I packed up the car and headed to my parents house at the beach yesterday in hopes of catching an ocean breeze. Trips to the neighborhood dock (which Doodle tried to ride his bike off of) and a ton of iced coffee has helped the heat wave. Anywhos stay tuned for next week because I have an exciting project coming up!!!!

PS I just opened up a new ebay store where I'm selling some favorites from the blog so check it out here skrillas!!

Leather & Cutoffs

top: piperlime (available here) // shorts: free people (available here) // shoes: shoemint (similar here) // necklace & bag: stella and dot (available here)

Hello skrillas, last weekend mama dukes, the Doodle Bug and myself went for a morning stroll on the waterfront near my parents house. I've been teaching dukes everything I have learned about photography from my amazing photographer  Molly and we had a blast testing out her new camera. Its become so natural now to throw on some cutoffs (and leather for that matter) that its kind of second nature. Anywhos, I'll be posting a new outfit on Friday so see ya then! PS I have a very exciting project coming up to share with you :)
