Back to the Gypsy, That I Was……2015 Resolutions

I'm not a big fan of New Year's resolutions……however, this year it seemed highly appropriate that I write some down….because 2015 is going to be MY year…..taking some time to work on myself…..so here goes…….

1. more dance parties (especially solo ones)

2. no more "settling" on men just because I'm lonely

3. do more for others (this should actually be a daily thing…..for everyone….on the planet)

4. pick up on my self taught french lessons….does french kissing count?

5. stop beating myself up about my weight, its just a fickle number, much like age….

6. travel to as many lighthouses as possible….I have a thing for lighthouses….. I don't know

7. buy less but choose well

8. listen to more Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and The Beatles because let's face it….today's music is horrid

9. buy more fresh flowers….for myself….while singing "All the Single Ladies"…..maybe incorporating one of those solo dance parties….

10. laugh more, all day, every damn day….but to also cry whenever the hell I see fit

11. remember to constantly tell my son how amazingly sweet, intelligent, hilarious and loved he is

12.  be a better friend…..because my gang lifts me up and keeps me safe and sound….and calls me out when I'm being a trifling hoe, just kidding, but seriously

13. follow my own arrow wherever it points….but to repeatedly remind myself that my arrow needs to be pulled back before it can be shot forward…..

14. let the ocean wash away my fears and sins……..it always brings me back to life

15. stay wild and free…..and inappropriate….and be brave yet vulnerable…..life is too short to be a basic bitch………and she drops the mic

"She was never crazy. She just didn't let her heart settle in a cage. She was born wild, and sometimes we need people like her. For it's the horrors in her heart which cause the flames in ours. And she was always willing to burn for everything she has ever loved."

Despite all of my big talk about being strong and putting up walls I'm actually an incredibly sensitive and passionate person. In the past I used to beat myself up about not being stronger, especially over the last several months trying to prove to everyone that despite going through a divorce and my life being turned upside down that I'm "ok."

Well, you know what, its exhausting trying to be strong all of the time. I feel things so intensely that sometimes I don't know how to come back from them.

Recently some important people in my life made me realize its ok to let myself be affected by things the way I do and that being constantly stoic is not healthy. Using what you have been given instead of trying to hide it away is always a better alternative…… This year I'm using my empathy and sympathy for greater causes because with everything going on lately I let myself crawl into a selfish hole.

My walls are still up guarding my heart because its not just me that is affected by who I choose to love…..but its time to start embracing my annoyingly passionate disposition.

New year. New feels. New breath. Same dreams, fresh starts.  The best part of the turn of a new year is that everything feels fresh. The symbolism of "starting over" is enough to make you want to have a solo dance party on the beach at sunset……but shouldn't every new day be that way? This year, instead of just starting over once I vow to start over every day……every single morning……same dreams, fresh starts……365 of them…..now that's exciting.

Ps thank you Jessica for breaking open this wine bottle and always being my partner in crime, this past year wouldn't have been the same without you :) Also…… Charlee, Katie, Becca, Liddy, Carly, Jenny, Sheree, Biggles, Claire and Corey….thank you for making sure I made it out of 2014 in one piece. Cheers to 2015
