For some people, clothing elicits a sort of visceral reaction (whether good or bad)….I am one of those people. Growing up where I did everyone wore their hunting camo gear everywhere ALL of the time. Walking into school each morning was like walking through a forest of people literally blending in with each other. So naturally, I stood out like sore thumb in my 4 inch stilettos and carefully thought out ensembles. Back then I used to almost be embarrassed of the fact that I love clothing so much and actually care what I put on my body……but now after I stopped seeking the approval of everyone in my hometown (or anyone else for that matter) I take pride in the fact that yes, beautiful clothes make me HAPPY. Now its kind of ironic to be sporting a camo sweater and all of the feelings and emotions it brings back….but damn if I didn't love this camo and lace combo :)

My habit of procuring items that no one else will have has gotten to the point where its (almost) annoying. Last month my mom and I found this dress at TJ Maxx and I went back and forth for like an hour on whether I should get it or not....on one hand it was a seriously good deal on my of my favorite brands....on the other hand it was at TJ Maxx in my hometown where there is literally nowhere to shop and I knew I wouldn't be the only one interested. After an hour of walking around mammadukes finally said "Brooke! You have been in love with French Connection since the first time you walked into their store in Soho like 7 years ago....shut up and get the dress.....no one can wear it the way you do". So, I got the dress.

I got home that day and tried the dress on and it was waaay too short for my taste, but I lurved the graphic print on the top and the way it fit....so naturally I threw a pair of jorts on with it and headed out the door for dinner with girls. The point being, don't take things for face value.....a dress can easily become a chic sweater. However, I'm back on my quest to acquire original pieces as I have already seen this dress on two other people since buying it.......a day in the life.

Lately I've been dreaming about traveling to far off lands and experiencing new cultures....but reality is that's just not possible at the moment. Instead of wallowing I decided to put on my favorite French Connection dress that reminds me of Alice in Wonderland and take in as much as I can around me. Molly and I were shooting some outfits a couple of weeks ago when we came across this incredible vintage store......I really did feel like I had fallen down the rabbit hole into another land, it was magical, an "everyday wonderland" if you will. I challenge you guys to create your own wonderland this weekend, whether it be traveling to a new town or just sitting in bed reading your favorite book or magazine, happy weekend skrillas :)
