Combat Boots and Truck Drivers

Last week a dear friend sent me this article…..and it shook me to the core…..these are the women I want around me….and I am very grateful that my gang feels the same way about me…… let's start lifting each other up instead of tearing each other down…….

"This is for the women who don't give a fuck.

The women who are first to get naked, howl at the moon and jump into the sea…..

This is for the women who seek relentless joy;
the ones who know how to laugh with their whole souls…..

The women who speak to strangers because they have no fear in their hearts.

The ones who wear "night make up" in the morning or don't own mascara.

The women who know their worth, who plant their feet and roar in their brilliance.

The women who aren't afraid to tell a man to get the fuck out of her heart if he doesn't honor her heart.

This is for the women who rock combat boots with frilly skirts.

The women who swear like truck drivers.

The women who hold the people who harass or wrong them with fierce accountability…..

This is for the women who drink coffee at midnight and wine in the morning and dare you to question it….

For the women who open doors for men and are confident enough to have doors opened for them.

Who use “no” to be in service for themselves.

Who don’t give a damn about pleasing the world, and do sweetly as they wish.

For the superheroes—the single moms who work three jobs to make it. I salute your resilient, cape-flapping, ambitious selves.

This is for the women who throw down what they love, and don’t waste time following society’s pressures to exist behind a white picket fence.

The women who create wildly, unbalanced, ferociously and in a blur at times.

The women who know how to be busy and know how to plant their feet in the earth and get grounded.

These are the women I want around me."

Slightly Askew

The older I get the more I've come to appreciate the fact that I'm not perfect……Messy hair……smudged eye liner and chipped nails are kind of my trademark. Perfect is expected…..perfect is inside the box……perfect is boring…..if you ask me, slightly askew is where its at :)

Leather, Strappy Heels and Cars Band Aids

Avintage brown mexican lace skirt (notice I did not say a Tibi midi skirt or neon tulle tutu) was just the ticket to make me feel beautiful for a Mother's Day lunch. It became a little more 'me' paired with other neutrals, a leather jacket and some black strappy heels. Oh and of course several Cars band aids add the perfect touch.

Day 10 of the Who What Wear 30 Day Wardrobe Challenge was "mix high-end with under $100." Honestly this one was not hard because I do that every day…..I have no problem saving money or selling old clothes to splurge on great accessories because I get a lot of wear out of them. And yes denim and coats are investments most of the time, but I'll tell you what, I bought this moto style jean jacket from Gap last year and I can't stop wearing it. Especially with all of the crazy weather lately I've probably worn it every day for the past 2 weeks. So when it comes to mixing high and low price points….. if you are going to splurge on something make sure it is a wardrobe staple….and also sometimes a $60 jean jacket can be an amazing find!

Day 7 of the Who What Wear 30 Day Wardrobe Challenge was "let your jewelry be the statement"…..which, if you have seen my jewelry collection from over the past 5 years you would know that was not a problem for me. I got this vintage Chanel necklace for Christmas several years ago and love pairing it with edgier statement pieces like these from Stella and Dot . I let the rest of the outfit take a backseat with a monochromatic gray, white and black color scheme….with a pop of mint   (to make it feel a little more like March than January).

New Things: See original post here

Day 62: made something new for breakfast: egg whites with chickpeas, feta & cherry tomatoes

Day 63: tried a new stretching routine before bed,  stretched muscles I forgot  even had….

Can't Stop, Won't Stop

chambray shirt: madewell (similar here) // skirt: helmut lang (available here) // blazer: one teaspoon (available here) // bag: madewell (available here) // shoes: shoemint (similar here) // sunnies: house of harlow 1960 (available here)

Alright skrillas, I wore this ensemble to my (one) date night with the hubs last month and it felt great to sit at our favorite local Italian place eating by candlelight just the two of us. I loved the tee, skirt and blazer but thought it looked a little too "pretty", you know what I mean? So I threw on my favorite chambray and it added the perfect amount of edge….its going to be one of my favorite layering pieces this season. Creating interesting outfits is all about adding the unexpected…and striking a balance…see you Friday.

Question (I say that in my best Dwight Schrute voice): ..... what do you wear when you have to do your normal park and museum circuit with your toddler.....then lunch with your parents....THEN dinner with your in-laws....oh and curveball you haven't washed your hair in like 6 days?? Answer: this outfit. I'm learning more and more that monochromatic outfits done with interesting cuts and bold accessories are my fail-safe.

PS stay tuned this week.....there are some major changes going on around here....including a name change...WHAT?? Yea I said it.....so get ready
