 Tuesday is that you? Don't normally post on Tuesdays but I'm trying 4 posts this week so let's see how this goes. Last month I mentioned I'll be contributing (along with some of my style muses) on We The Fashionati and this month the theme is "Sporty". I went with a sports luxe kind of vibe and    I most definitely got this outfit from an article on Who What Wear on how to dress up sweatpants…..I tweaked it a little with tan boots and my fanfreakingtastic Rebecca Minkoff transparent mini mac…. I wore both of these ensembles to fashion shows last month and I have to say my favorite part about both of these is that neither "dress" is an actual dress. The first little number is a vintage Burberry wool liner from a trench coat and when I found it I couldn't wait to wear it as a vest but thought it would look really freaking cool belted as a dress. The second look is actually a belted kimono and I can't take credit for this because my girls at fab'rik had the idea to make it into a dress. Its not hard to see I'm crushing on all things fringe right now....and have recently acquired more....oopsies. 

How to Make Vintage Your Own

I've had several conversations with friends lately about vintage clothing. Which leads me to today's post. I've always been a vintage lover...and in this day and age where every girl who knows what Chanel is thinks she is a fashion maven I find it more exciting to scout pieces that no one else will have.

Let's start with what you should be looking for, shall we?

Fabric and print are key. In an ideal world you would need to scour vintage shops to check out the quality of the fabric. If it looks cheap right off the bat keep it movin' sister, not worth it. If you pick up a piece and it looks like it has never been worn....that's a good sign. Also, be weary of super thin cotton. If you are going to search for vintage online just try ask for as many pictures and descriptions as possible.

Now for the print......obviously if a print speaks to you and doesn't look like its directly plucked out of a certain era go for it. Classics like animal prints and stripes are good to start out with. I found this little animal print dress in a vintage shop is Asheville called Ragtime a couple of months ago and it looked like it came straight off the runways. It came with a sheer overlay with the same print that I turned it a dress and showed a couple of weeks ago here.

After you acquire your new found vintage pieces its important to accessorize them in a modern way so you don't look dated. Throw on your favorite chains and some sleek shoes.....leather bags are also always a yes in my book.

In the end if you still don't feel edgy enough or you look too stuffy.....throw a leather jacket on......that ALWAYS does the trick :)

Who says feminine has to be frilly? A leather skirt has the perfect amount of sultriness yet has soft lines. Pair a leather skirt with a v-neck sweater and a unique leather clutch on your next date night and see if you don't get noticed. But don't forget about a fierce pair of heels.....every femme fatale needs some.

Obviously motherhood is the most important thing in my life....but there are certain times when a girl just wants to escape reality. For me there is no better escape than fashion and food. Decadent silks and leathers along with chocolate espresso tarts are pretty much heaven to me.  What do you guys do to escape your crazy lives?

This past Friday was wine and cheese night at my house with the girls. A full spread of chocolate covered popcorn, cheeses, macaroons and of course wine.......along with laughter and gossip was enjoyed. These nights are way too rare... but when they do happen I get all dressed up like I'm going out on the town because for a stay at home mom girls night (even at your house) is an event :) I'm absolutely smitten with this top because I wore it at my rehearsal dinner and I thought it would be a perfect juxtaposition to pair it with distressed boyfriend jeans. Anywhos, (time permitting) the plan is to start posting on Mondays & Thursdays.....sooo see ya Thursday skrillas!
