Apricot Lane Opening

blouse: free people (available here )// pants: diy (see steps here )// jacket: the limited (old, similar here )// shoes: shoemint // sunnies: prada (available here )// watch: michael kors (available here )// bag & jewels: stella & dot

Let me start by saying that if you are ever in the North Hills area then you need to check out the new Apricot Lane Boutique that just opened this weekend. Seriously guys, I'm not saying that I'm any connoisseur on boutiques in the Triangle, oh wait I am.....but this one has it all. No need to break the bank for interesting pieces that are sure to find a welcome place in your closet because their price point is spot on with brands like Lucca Couture and Everly (which I am a big fan of). And the friendly owners and staff are more welcoming and helpful than 99% of other boutiques in the area!

I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening this past Thursday night and I was giddy with excitement ( I love finding new local boutiques in the area). I was also pretty stoked to wear my new satin heels with the pants I DIYed the night before which you can see step by step how to do on the What2Wear facebook page here.

You can also see some of my favorite items in the store right now on the What2Wear facebook page and some snapshots from the night on instagram @doodlesmom812

BTW: this is not a sponsored post...it is just my dream to one day own my own boutique and I like to give praise to those who are doing it right :)

Ps I'm linking up with Molly again for #yolo Monday's so be sure to check that out! Themollybuckley.com

Thoughts.....on Clothing and Adulthood

sweatshirt & vest: stylemint // jeans: rag & bone (similar here )// boots: diy (similar here )// sunnies: ray ban (available here )// bag: louis vuitton (via saks) // jewels: stella & dot

Let me start by saying this post was brought on by a comment I recently read on Facebook (which is ironic because for the most part everything on facebook annoys me...including said comment).

It was a girl saying something to the effect of "why do girls care whether or not other girls wear SKIMPY COSTUMES on halloween" and "the only girls who complain about this are the ones who DON'T LOOK GOOD in skimpy costumes, they are just jealous", how trite and cliche right?.............Usually I would have just gone about my day but now I'm all fired up.....To the first part: you are correct, I am so thankful that my life involves so much more than caring about what you choose to clothe yourself in.......to the second part: you are 100% FALSE!!!!!!

Now, I'm coming from a place of newfound wisdom on this issue.....I'm not "hating" on you because I'm jealous that you look better in a skimpy costume than me, its quite the opposite in fact. I can pretty much GUARANTEE you that I feel just as SEXY in a sweatshirt, flannel vest and jeans as you do in your bra and underwear that you refer to as a "costume".

I don't know, maybe its from motherhood or just GROWING UP that I feel this way because I'm not like a staunch feminist (although I am a huge advocate for women's rights) but I would like to point out that I love my body....I actually am way more comfortable in my own skin after I had my son than I was in high school or college....HOWEVER.....I RESPECT myself enough to know that I don't have to show 90% of my skin/ cleavage/ butt cheeks to get the attention I deserve.

Like I said, this is not me trying to offend anyone or call them out.....it really doesn't matter to me what you wear (I'm more concerned with doodle's outfits).... and lord knows I've had my questionable fashion choices (we all have). But think twice before you go around saying that the only people that complain about you looking like a SKANKBAG are the ones who are jealous of your body....maybe once you enter ADULTHOOD you will have a different perspective. Or maybe you won't , geez louise there are still several "Real Housewives"that have yet to be enlightened on this issue!!!!!

What are YOUR thoughts on CLOTHING and ADULTHOOD....have you learned anything about how you perceive yourself? I hope so......because you are AWESOME :)

The Best of Both Worlds

There were several reasons why this weekend was AWESOME.......

1. my parents watched the doodle bug so that Sam and I could finally use our gift certificate to the Raleigh Walking Food Tours that we received as a wedding present....if you would like to see the amazing food we tried you can check out the new What2Eat section on the What2Wear facebook page here

outfit deets: tee: stylemint // skirt: aryn k (available here )// shoes: sam edleman (available here )// bag: shoemint // jewels: stella & dot

2. the hubs and I got to go to a local bar at 3 in the afternoon and day drink and stuff our faces with pizza like it was our job......(parents of 14 month old baby boy do not get to day drink....or really drink at all for that matter haha)
2 a. getting to wear this cobalt blue jacket that i've had in my closet for 5 years and never worn, was it to a whole-in-the-wall bar, yes, erroneous on all accounts

outfit deets: top: daven (via clotheshound, similar here ) // jacket: urban outfitters, super old (similar here ) // shorts: urban outfitters (available here ) // shoes: 3.1 phillip lim (via asks, available here )// sunnies: prada (available here )// bag and jewels: stella & dot

3. because I had so much free time I got to read some ifb articles including 100 Reasons Why It's Great to be a Blogger where I found several reasons that were most definitely written for me....
"Your mom will think you’re a celebrity, even if no one else does."
"Your mailman will think you’re a celebrity, too, or a drug runner. (So many packages!)"
"Sequins during daylight hours are highly encouraged."
"You can develop legitimate friendships with people you have tons in common with, without ever       meeting them in person (and it’s not creepy)."
"It’s cooler not to dress sexy."
"Shopping can be considered “market research.”

4. getting to bring doodle to the state fair with my friend Rebecca and eat fried oreos and see all of the crazy rednecks and hillbillies our state has to offer....   if you would like to see mine and doodle's shenanigans from the fair you can follow us on instagram @doodlesmom812

outfit deets: tee: stylemint // jeans: diy...see below for more // shoes: minnetonka (available here )// sunnies: kawaii kitsch by a // bag: louis vuitton via saks// watch: michael kors (available here )

5. my free time also allowed me to get some diy projects done, one being the pants I wore to the fair...if you would like to see how I did this project you can follow the What2Wear facebook page here where I show you step by step

6. I tried my first French Macaroon at La Farm Bakery in Cary!!

7. being fortunate enough to have the best of both worlds by getting to spend some quality time with the hubs and getting to see my baby doodle light up when experiencing new things

PS I'm linking up with Molly today so be sure to check out the #yolo monday's link up!

Fashion Copycat- Paris Streetstyle

photo via style.com

sweatshirt: diy// jacket: the limited (old, similar here )// skirt: urban outfitters (old, similar here )// collar: kawaiikitschbya // shoes: 3.1 phillip lim (available here )// bag: shoemint // sunnies: diy// jewels: stella & dot

Hello friends, for some reason my video yesterday messed up my html code and I don't know if you could read my text/ funny quip of the day. Anywhos, I spotted this photo of someone at Paris Fashion Week and shrieked with excitement....I totally had similar items in my closet and I lurve the mix of a sporty sweatshirt with a brocade skirt. And the custom collar from Kawaii Kitsch by A by Allison from A's Fashion Files  totally takes the outfit to the next lev, if you know what I mean (obsessed). I'm also pretty stoked to debut my new diy sweatshirt (totally stollen from an ASOS sweater but like way cheaper) and diy (or as my husband called them bedazzled.....diy just sounds classier muhahah) sunglasses! Lastly, if you just asked yourself if that was a diaper in my see-through purse then you were correct......

Also, if you are a member of Trifabb or a fashion or beauty blogger in the Raleigh/Triangle area the next Trifabb meet up is on October 24th and you can check out the deets here , be there or be square, there is frozen yogurt and jewelry involved!

If you would like to see mine and doodle's daily shenanigans you can follow me on instagram @doodlesmom812 or the What2Wear facebook page here

P.S. If you didn't get a chance to vote for my stylemint outfit on Facebook (you know you want to) you can do so here, I would be ever so grateful!!!!

What2Apply: Benefit- Raining Men

top:h&m// tunic: cabi// shoes: shoemint// belt: vince camuto// bag & sunnies: target// jewelry: tiffany& co, boticca.com, diy, michael kors, kate spade, sylvia benson

I would like to start off today by saying thank you for all of the support on yesterday's post, you actually like me! And that makes me sooo happy. Next, let me preface this story by saying when I was pregnant last summer and my due date came and went and there was still no doodle man I went a little crazy, another week passed by and I was massive, full of hormones and sweating like a 300 pound man so I did what always makes me feel better...I went shopping! But I couldn't buy clothes or shoes soooo I bought $200 worth of new makeup (the hormones made me a little cray-cray)....and this eyeshadow was part of my loot. It's Benefit's Velvet Eyeshadow in Raining Men and I'm obsessed with it! I started taking a flat angle brush and wearing it as eyeliner recently which allows me to get more use out of it because I can't really wear teal eyeshadow on a daily basis. If you are looking for a new eye shadow I would highly recommend this shade! That is all :)
